To understand why, you need to know one thing about your plantar fascia. It barely gets any blood. Picture this. A highway is damaged and needs fixing. But the only road in is a narrow dirt path full of potholes. That's basically what your fascia is working with. When it gets hurt, the repair crew your body sends out can barely get through. That's the real reason this takes months or years to heal instead of just a few weeks like most injuries do.
This is where red and near infrared light come in, used right on the bottom of your foot.
Here's what it actually does. The light goes deep enough to get past your skin and reach the fascia itself, not just warm the surface. Once it's there, your cells soak it up and turn it into energy they can use, kind of like how a plant uses sunlight. That extra energy gets the stalled repair work moving again.
At the same time, the light opens up the blood vessels in that area. It's like turning that broken dirt path into a real road again. Now the repair crew can actually get through and reach the injury. More blood means more of what your body needs, finally reaching the spot that's been stuck.
Inflammation goes down too, but not because it's being shut off like a cortisone shot does. It goes down because the tissue is finally healing the way it was always supposed to.
One thing matters a lot here. It has to be the right wavelengths, specifically 660 and 850 nanometers. Anything less, and the light can't reach deep enough to actually hit the fascia. It just sits on top of your skin and doesn't do much.
Out of everything we just covered, this is the only one that does something none of the others do. It doesn't cushion the injury, numb it, loosen what's around it, support it, quiet it, or hurt it on purpose. It gives your body what it was missing to heal in the first place.
